🏅 Alan McIndoe
Rugby league player Alan McIndoe was born and raised in Emerald before joining the Illawarra Steelers. In an interview later published by the NRL, he recalled receiving recruitment calls at the neighbour's house because his family had no telephone. Illawarra's representative eventually flew up to meet him, sealing the move. McIndoe later returned to Emerald and contributed through coaching, mentoring and refereeing, with a local oval named in his honour. His Central Highlands story therefore includes both the departure for professional football and the work of giving something back.
